The Soundtrack of Mirror Lake: Clair de Lune and the Heart of For Sale

book

When I think about the world of For Sale, there’s one song that instantly plays in my mind: Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy. It’s always been one of my favorites — soft, romantic, and a little haunting. The kind of melody that drifts in like moonlight across still water, carrying both beauty and mystery in every note.

Music has a special place in my life. My father was an accomplished pianist — he played and taught piano, accordion, and organ. He loved beautiful songs that told stories, and he shared that love with me. He even taught me piano, though I never quite found the same passion for playing like he did.

What I did take from him, beyond the notes and melodies, was the gift of teaching and an appreciation for music’s power to tell many stories — stories of love, loss, mystery, and hope. That legacy of storytelling through music inspired much of the mood and atmosphere in For Sale.

In my imagination, Clair de Lune plays over Mirror Lake at night — silver light shimmering across the surface, the gentle lap of waves against the pier, the stillness before the story’s secrets begin to stir. It’s the perfect soundtrack for those quiet, intimate moments in my novel… moments when love, memory, and suspense intertwine.

If For Sale” were a film or TV series, Clair de Lune would have its perfect moment: Olivia stepping off the porch and walking toward the lake and for the first time — truly understanding why it’s called Mirror Lake, where the water reflects not just the world around it, but the reflections of who we are.

For the full effect, I invite you to listen as you read:

Whether you’re reading For Sale for the first time or returning to Mirror Lake, let this song be your companion. Let it draw you into the moonlit water, the echo of footsteps on the dock, and the promise that something — or someone — is waiting in the shadows.
